(a) All legislation becomes effective as law on the same day that it receives Royal assent. This is known as the 'commencement date' of the legislation.
(b) Legislation must state, in its provisions, the exact date on which it comes into effect as law. Otherwise it will never become operational.
(c) Legislation comes into effect 28 days after receiving Royal assent, unless it contains a provision specifying some other date on which it becomes operational as law.
