(c) Yes. Legislation may specify when it is to commence. Sometimes it is provided that operation will commence on the day the Act receives Royal assent.
In other cases the new Act may specify that it will begin to operate on a particular date, when a specific event occurs or on a date to be decided by the government.
If no date is specified in the Act, it will commence operation 28 days after receiving Royal assent.
The date on which legislation comes into effect is known as the commencement date.
