Sources of law: legislation
4. Finding legislation

4. 2. Getting some practice

It is a good idea to get familiar with the process of finding legal materials in a database. As an exercise, see if you can find your way to the following Acts online.

1. Find the Damage by Aircraft Act 1999 (Cth)

This is a Commonwealth Act, so you will need to find your way to the AustLII database that contains Commonwealth legislation. Then seach for the Act by its title. Jade (http://www.jade.io) follows a similar structure: you can search for Acts under their respective legislatures and then browse by year or name.

2. Find the sale of goods legislation that applies in your own state or territory

Firstly, click here to see the title of the sale of goods legislation that applies in each state and territory.

Then take note the title of which Act you want. Then find your way to the AustLII or Jade database that contains the legislation of your state or territory, and search for the Act by its title.
