3. The origins of Australian Law

3.1. The similarity of Australian law with other national legal systems

 

 

 

Even a superficial examination of the laws of various countries shows that, in many respects, they are similar to Australian law.  Why is this?  Choose which of the alternatives below best explains this fact.

 (a) The laws of many modern states are similar because law inevitably develops along the same lines, regardless of local circumstances, custom and culture.

 (b) The laws of some modern states are similar because many modern states have imported large parts of their law from one or other of two major legal systems that developed long ago in Western Europe.
