7.10. Counsel

 

 

 

The names of the lawyers representing the parties in court are recorded in reports, as shown below. You will see that one of the laywers has the letters 'QC' after his name. This is an abbreviation of 'Queen's Counsel'. These are senior barristers who have been appointed Queen's Counsel because they are particularly learned in the law. They are sometimes referred to as 'silks' because they wear silk robes. In Australia, the term 'Senior Counsel' (abbreviated to 'SC') is often used rather than Queen's Counsel.
