The Australian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) databases contain legislation, case law and other legal materials from Australia and from other countries. It is a free online service run by the law faculties of two Australian Universities, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Like most sites, AustLII organises its databases both by ‘jurisdiction’ and 'type of materials'. Look at the illustration from the AustLII homepage below. On the upper line (red background) are shown the databases of different kinds of legal materials. On the lower line (grey background) are shown the various jurisdictions.
You can search for materials most efficiently by selecting the most appropriate jurisdiction and the particular type of materials. This is demonstrated in the next section.
