(a)  The word ‘legislation’ is properly used only to refer to law that is enacted by a legislature or parliament.

(b)  The word ‘legislation’ can be properly used to refer to any rule of law that is enforced by the courts when deciding a case.

(c)   The word ‘legislation’ has the same meaning as the words ‘Act’ and ‘statute’.

(d)   The term ‘by-law’ refers to legislation that is enacted by a local government.
