The law of sale that applies in Australia today was initially developed in England, over many years, by judges deciding disputes that came before the courts. Then, in 1893, the English Sale of Goods Act was compiled. It consolidated the principles that the courts had laid down, in a concise but comprehensive code.
The current Australian state and territory sale of goods legislation are all copies, with small amendments, of this original Sale of Goods Act 1893 (UK).
