6. Injunctions

6.1. The purpose of injunctions

 

 

 

An injunction is a court order requiring a defendant to do something or not to do something. Injunctions are an appropriate remedy when the harm to a plaintiff is continuing or when it has not yet happened.

An injunction is normally addressed to a particular person and failure to obey the terms of an injunction may be punished as a contempt of court. Injunctions are probably the most important alternative remedy to damages.
