(a)  The word ‘custom’ is properly used to refer to rules of conduct established by long tradition and obeyed because of peer pressure or convenience. 

(b)  The phrase ‘common law’ is properly used to refer to those laws that are commonly found to exist in the legal systems of all modern states.

(c)   The phrase ‘indigenous law’ is properly used to refer to laws developed within a particular country.  Because Australia has inherited English law, it has no indigenous law.
