The ACL provides penalties in the event of a contravention of many of its provisions. Some contraventions attract civil pecuniary penalties. Other contraventions are criminal offences, punishable by a fine.
Some contraventions that attract pecuniary penalties are also offences, but if a person is convicted of an offence, they are not also subject to the pecuniary penalty.
