2. (b) That's right. A plaintiff can ask for the full value of the chattel at the date of the conversion and is also entitled to claim compensation for any further losses that may have resulted from the conversion - for example, loss of trade or profits that would have derived from use of the chattel. And a court may also award punitive damages (that is damages intended to punish the defendant) if the conversion is a particularly serious one.
