(b) Yes. Words are usually given their ordinary meaning, but not when they are specially defined in an Act, to give them special meanings. In s 3 of the Injuries in Sports Act, the word 'injury' is defined to mean 'any physical harm ... for which medical attention or treatment is provided'.

This means that if Eric did not receive medical attention or treatment, the wound to his face would not be an 'injury' within the meaning of s 4.
