Boolean searching

'Boolean searching' is a special way of looking for particular documents in a database. It is based on the idea that key words and phrases can be used in combination with each other by connecting them in various specified ways that will help to identify particular documents.

Typical Boolean 'connectors' are the words 'and' and 'or', giving search terms such as: 'murder and rape' or 'murder or rape'.
