Sources of law

 

Primary sources

Primary sources are those texts or documents that are authoritative as law. They contain statements of law originating from recognised law-making bodies. The following are all primary sources of law:

- case law (also known as "common law" and "judge made" law)

- legislation (also called "Acts" or "statutes")

- subordinate (or delegated) legislation (also called "regulations")

- treaties and conventions
