(a)  The ‘golden’ rule of statutory interpretation states that the courts are required to give a meaning to legislation that best benefits society as a whole.

(b)  The ‘golden’ rule of statutory interpretation states that the courts are not required to give a meaning to legislation that is either absurd, or which is morally repugnant.

(c)   The ‘golden’ rule of statutory interpretation states that the courts are free to give any meaning to legislation that the court considers both reasonable and fair.
