2. (a) That's right. The principles of cattle trespass have been extended to animals other than cattle, such as horses, goats and pigs. The principles apply to animals that are domesticated and normally subject to individual ownership.

But some such animals, particularly cats and dogs, are not included because they are hard to keep within restricted boundaries. They are also less likely to cause the type of damage produced by grazing animals.

Cattle trespass also does not apply to wild animals, which are subject to different rules.
