2. (a) That's not right. The best view is that the defendant's conduct must be such that it would raise an expectation of immediate physical harm in the mind of a reasonable person in the plaintiff's position.

The test is whether or not a reasonable person in B's position would have seen that A was only gesturing with the fork and, although angry, had no intention of striking a blow.
