2. (b) It is hard to say with certainty, but you have chosen the safer answer. Detinue is the intentional or negligent failure to relinquish control of goods. It occurs when one person wrongfully keeps goods after the person entitled to possess them has demanded their return. There can be an overlap between conversion and detinue, depending upon the facts of the case. To establish detinue, it must be shown that, for whatever reason, the defendant has refused unconditionally and unequivocally to return the goods as requested.

In the present case, this may be difficult to establish, because although A has not returned the saw, he is making excuses and delaying rather than directly refusing.
