(a)  The power of a court to hear and decide cases can be properly referred to as its ‘jurisdiction’.

(b)  An ‘original hearing’ refers to the first hearing of a case by the courts.

(c) A state supreme court with a single judge sitting can hear appeals from lower ranking courts in that court hierarchy.
