(a)  The High Court of Australia does not form part of the state and territory court hierarchies but, even so, its decisions are binding on all other Australian courts.

(b)  The High Court of Australia is the highest ranking court in each of the various Australian court hierarchies, which makes its decisions binding on all the lower courts in each hierarchy.

(c)   When sitting as a court of appeal, the High Court of Australia consists of either five or seven judges, but not six.
