(a)  The phrase ‘ratio decidendi’ broadly translated means ‘law report’. 

(b)  The reports of decided cases are collected together and published in various ‘law report series’ each of which has its own name.

(c)   The ‘citation’ of a case contains not only the name of the case but information concerning the location of the relevant law report.
