(a)  The doctrine of precedent is a good way of ensuring that the law remains certain, predictable and consistent.

(b)  The doctrine of precedent is primarily a way of keeping control of judges and stopping them from making new law when deciding cases. 

(c)   There is no widely accepted reason for following the doctrine of precedent: it is simply the established way Australian courts work.
