Sections may be divided into subsections. Section 5 of this Act has three subsections. In legal texts, ‘section’ is usually abbreviated to the letter ‘s’ and ‘subsection’ to ‘ss’ or ‘sub-s’.
You will see that subsection 1 is further divided into sss (a) and (b).
