The title of an Act indicates broadly what the legislation is about and the year in which it was enacted. Acts are also numbered, which can be useful when looking for an Act in a library or database.
Older Acts like this one tend to have long explanatory titles.
Modern Acts have shorter titles, supplemented by a ‘purpose’ section which sets out the broad objectives of the Act as a whole.
