Examples of legislative powers

 

Section 16 of the Constitution Act 1975 (Vic) states that the Victorian parliament: 'shall have power to make laws in and for Victoria in all cases whatsoever '.

Section 5 of the Constitution Act 1902 (NSW) states that: 'The Legislature shall, subject to the provisions of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act, have power to make laws for the peace, welfare, and good government of New South Wales in all cases whatsoever: Provided that all Bills for appropriating any part of the public revenue, or for imposing any new rate, tax or impost, shall originate in the Legislative Assembly. '
