(b) That's wrong. According to the power that they have (the various aspects of their jurisdiction) Australian courts exist in a well defined and strictly observed hierarchy.

There is a separate hierarchy for the Commonwealth courts and for the courts in each state and territory. The most powerful courts are at the top of each hierarchy (superior courts) while the least powerful ones are at the botttom (inferior courts).

We will examine the structures of these hierarchies in more detail later in this module.
