Having heard argument, the court then decides what facts have been proved and can be relied on.
The court also decides what rules of law are indeed relevant and what those rules mean.
The case is decided by applying the law to the proved facts in a logical way, to decide the case in favour of either the plaintiff or the defendant.
An appropriate order is then made, for instance, that the defendant pay damages to the plaintiff.
