(b) That's right.  The registration of a business name is not purely a formality. When a business name is registered, there are certain other things that have to be done by the person conducting the business.

• The name of the business must be displayed in an obvious position outside the registered business address.
• The owner(s) of the business must start trading within three months of registering the business name.
• The business name must be re-registered every three years.
• Notice must be given of any changes to the ownership, address, or nature of the business so that the registered details remain current.
