2. (a) That's wrong. A has very clearly appointed B as her agent and stated in clear terms what acts she is authorising B to perform on her behalf, as well as the extent to which he is allowed to go.

When an agent is given express authority, they are only empowered by that authority to do the things that are stated. To bid for and buy a different painting would exceed the express authority given by A to B.
